This caterpillar is either green or brown, and has a short white-tipped spike on the tail. It has two white stripes on the head and tail, the latter often joining to form a loop. The first abdominal segment has an eyespot that has a black centre with some white dots in it. The other abdominal segments have a series of diminishing smaller eyespots that are white and brown.

The caterpillar has been found feeding on various herbaceous plants, including

  • Noni ( Morinda citrifolia, RUBIACEAE ), and
  • Star Flower ( Pentas lanceolata, RUBIACEAE ).

    The caterpillar grows to a length up to 7 cms.

    The adult moths have brown banded forewings, and red hindwings with brown margins.

    This species occurs over south-east Asia, including

  • Borneo,
  • China,
  • Hawaii,
  • Hong Kong,
  • the Philippines,
  • Thailand,
    and in Australia, including:
  • Queensland, and
  • Northern Territory.
