Many caterillars of species in this family are densely covered in branched hairs, and feed of dead leaves of plants from families such as MYRTACEAE, POACEAE, and PROTEACEAE.
The species in this family have been previously been
placed in the family
GELICHIIDAE and some in SYMMOCIDAE, but
here, following
Nielsen et al., they are treated as the separate family
LECITHOCERIDAE.
