These caterpillars are black and hairy, with a broad white stripe along each side enveloping the row of black spiracles. The head is brown.

The adult moths of this species have forewings that are yellow with varied dark red-brown pattern on them that has a yellow cirle in the middle of each wing. The hindwings are plain yellow. The wingspan is about 2 cms.

The species has been found in :

  • Queensland in Australia.

    This species shows some variations in the colour and pattern which overlap those of other species in Lyclene. The three similar species seem to occur in the following regions:

  • Lyclene pyraula - North of Cairns
  • Lyclene reticulata - Mossman to Townsville
  • Lyclene structa - Maryborough to Canberra
